And I think my voice is pretty mediocre. Frank Sinatra. There are no barriers between what she sings and feels and her ability to sing it. That really comes across to me. Aretha, of course. Billie Holiday. Those rank at the top for me. I think I know how to make good records, but still the vocal is at the heart and soul of it. I think that most singers do write for their strengths.
She certainly has an exquisite voice. Then you have somebody like Mariah Carey, who writes virtually everything she does, and yet I think she uses her voice profoundly well. Sometimes people are better singers than they are songwriters, and to get both of those things to be world-class, top-of-the-line is hard.
Even Michael Jackson is an underrated singer. The guy is amazing. As a songwriter, I was always interested in the best people singing my songs, then they would make the songs sound better. Ann Wilson was the lead singer and sometimes played the flute.
Roger Fisher played the lead guitar and sang. Steve Fossen played the bass guitar. Nancy Wilson played lots of different types of guitar and sang.
Mike Fisher managed the band and also looked after the sound and the lights. Heart did not like this, and wanted all copies of "Magazine" to be destroyed. They took the old record company to court. The judge ordered that the old record company must stop selling the album. The judge also ordered that Heart must make a new album for the old record company. This new album was also called "Magazine". It was given to the shops after "Little Queen" was made. It was very different in musical style from the first three albums.
