And any of the best ofs covering this period really show how good he could be when everything came together for him. When you put all his best songs all in a row like that you think he was one of the major songwriters of that era.
He would have a much better discography, especially in those to years, if he cut the superfluous covers. I really enjoyed reading through these reviews. A real pity given the potential that Serenade and BN showed. The three records to follow were really poor, although I actually have a preference to September Morn out of the three. Personal preference I guess. Great stuff. You are commenting using your WordPress.

It is a a throwaway, but I think all these 5 are worse. I have always struggled with this guy. I remember when that was on the radio. Harder for someone like Neil Young, who generally sounds cool, even with sub-standard material.
A surprise considering the line up. I kept my mind open and the song worked for me. He certainly was a different choice. Yes, he made friends with Robertson when they lived near each other in Malibu. I think Levon Helm was disgusted that Diamond was involved. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account.

As side note, one of the great misheard lyrics is The Reverend Blue Jeans. Yes, agree that baritones were much more popular then. Audio, Cassette, October 16, "Please retry".

This album is Neil's best work. It is an original piece of work. A result of his genius creativity. The music on this one still pleased my ears over 45 years later. The music is 5-star, the CD packaging disappoints because there is no facsimile of the original album insert, which was an account written in calligraphic handwriting of Neil Diamond's search for the roots of his favored music, eventually taking him back to its origins in African music.
I always love it when an artist with great popularity skirts convention and does something totally unexpected. The second half of this album consists of excellent renditions of African folk music.
The medley is Album) and enchanting throughout. One of the most beautiful albums of all time, in my opinion. Arrived late, but not the fault of the Album). In excellent condition. This album has been my favorite Neil Diamond album ever.
His break from straight pop rock to a mix of African music was very refreshing LP me. I believe this album was also inspiring to other artists expanding what sells records formula music. I was first introduced to Neil Diamond when I was 13 years old.
