Ground is mostly dark, but objects projecting into the sky are discernible. MW still appears complex, dark voids and bright patches and meandering outline are all visible. Brightest Globular Clusters are distinct, but M33 is only visible with averted vision. M31 the Andromeda Galaxy is obviously visible. Zodical light is striking Ambivallent Sky (CR Style) - Plagarec - Core Restruction (CDr) Spring and Autumn, extending 60 degrees above the horizon.
Airglow is not visible and clouds are faintly illuminated, except at the zenith. Some light pollution eveidnet along the horizon. Ground objects are vaguely apparent. Only well above the horizon does the MW reveal any structure. Fine details are lost. M33 is a difficult object, even with averted vision. M31 is still readily visible. Zodiacal light is clearly evident, but extends less than 45 degrees after dusk. Clouds are faintly illuminated except at the zenith, Ambivallent Sky (CR Style) - Plagarec - Core Restruction (CDr).
Light pollution domes are obviouse in several directions. Sky is noticeably brighter than the terrain. MW appears washed out overhead and is lost completely near the horizon. The oval of M31 is detectable, as is the glow in the Orion Nebula. Only nints of zodiacal light in Spring and Autumn. Clouds are noticibly brighter than the sky, even at the zenith. Light pollution domes are obviouse to casual observers.
Ground objects are partly lit. MW only apparent overhead and appears broken as fianter parts are lost to sky glow. M31 is detectable only as a faint smudge; Orion Nebula is seldom glimpsed. Zodiacal light is not visible. Constellations are seen and not lost against a starry sky.
Clouds anywhere in the sky appear fairly bright as they reflect back light. Superficially, Kennedy and his comrades have stayed true to their simple but effective initial masterplan from the start, but the versatility and lightness of touch that made early records like "Blackbird" and the flawless "III" so engaging seems to have become slowly weighed down and diminished by arena-filling heavy handedness. The major difference between this and its overpowering predecessor is a subtle but clearly discernible looseness and swagger in the band's performances.
It's as if they reached a peak of volume and heaviness and passed through to the other side, where groove, melody and sonic space are kings, and bursts of heavy metal thunder are used to contrast, rather than cudgel.
Nothing radical has happened to the way ALTER BRIDGE write songs, but there is a breeziness to the flow Ambivallent Sky (CR Style) - Plagarec - Core Restruction (CDr) "Godspeed" and "Native Son" that feels fresh and new, and an inventiveness and sense of wide-eyed wonder in myriad ambient embellishments, all of which make this by far the band's most sonically interesting record to date.
There are choruses piled on top of choruses, all of them designed to either raise the spirits or wrench tears from your eyes. Kennedy sounds as fervently committed to every note and proclamation as ever, albeit with all-out histrionics kept to an efficacious minimum.
His voice may be manna for some and kryptonite to others, but it would take a hard heart to deny that his vocal on the closer, "Dying Light"is a thing of gritty, soulful beauty.
